Article by Manidip Bandyopadhyay

Breast cancer is regarded one of the deadly cancers found among women. In every corner of the globe women of all ages are worried with the grave health issue. Every year millions of women are diagnosed with this deadly cancer in our beautiful planet. Thorough researches are going on through out the globe to find out the cause of such disease and to find a cure of it. Doctors too are trying hard to find out the ways how to diagnose and treat the fatal disease.

Signs of breast cancer

If the breast cancer is detected at an earlier date good result can be expected. Again with it there is associated greater survival rate. Hence the most vital thing is to detect the signs of breast cancer. Generally the signs of breast cancer include:

• Discharging of bloody liquid from the nipples

• Indentation or retraction of nipples

• Change in the shape of breasts

• A feeling of compression on the breasts

• Orange peel on the breasts

According to the doctors the breasts are on a cycle of changes during pregnancy and menstruation periods. Hence it is very critical to isolate the signs of the breast cancer in the very initial period. The doctor or the individual may find a cyst or tumor on the breast. But the lumps on the breast may be caused due to many reasons. Hence the doctors opine that if a swelling on the breast does not subside after a month it must be taken care of.

How to check breast cancer

The moment a doctor finds a lump on the breast of a woman during a routine check up he/she is ready to advice for a few diagnostic tests. These tests are ultrasound test, biopsies, hormone tests genetic tests and staging tests. A biopsy is the method of taking a tissue sample from the breast that is affected. Now the sample is sent to the laboratory for detailed analysis. If it is found that there are malignant cells in the lump the doctor advises for hormone tests. Actually by doing so the doctor wants to determine whether estrogen or progesterone is associated with the malignant growth. Now the doctor generally prescribes drugs to prevent estrogen from cell building.

Stages of breast cancer

There are four stages of the breast cancer. Stage 1 indicates that the cancer is limited on the early stage. It is confined within a small area. The cancer becomes dangerous with the advent of the stages. In the stage 4 it is noted that the cancer has spread to all organs of the body. If stage 0 is noticed it is absolutely appreciated. It suggests that the cancer is limited in a particular place and it is non invasive. The patients on this stage can be easily cured. The treatment depends on how advanced the cancer is. When the situation reaches stage IV chemotherapy and radiation therapy are suggested.

Article by Charlene J. Nuble

Lung cancer warning signs can easily be detected once they are manifested by the patient. These warnings signs will caution anyone that he or she might have the disease.

Some of the prominent signs of lung cancer are: hoarseness, shortness of breath, weight loss and anorexia, chronic cough, bloody sputum, infections that are recurring and chest pain. It is advisable that one must see a doctor immediately once two or more warning signs are experienced.

Hoarseness

A change in the voice which is considered as an abnormal change is referred to as hoarseness. One of the main causes of hoarseness is smoking. In someone who is hoarse, the voice tends to become raspy, evident changes in the pitch or volume, breathy, and strained. Usually, changes in the voice are related to the disorders affecting the larynx or voice box. When there are certain lumps, aberrations, or swelling, voice vibration is hindered which causes pitch, voice quality and volume alteration.

Shortness of breath

Dyspnea or otherwise known as shortness of breath is the difficult feeling of labored breathing which contributes to disproportion of a person’s physical activities. It is a symptom that can be life threatening which is caused by several diseases. In lung cancer, shortness of breath is caused by airway obstruction due to infection, inhalation of an irritant or a foreign object and hemorrhage.

Weight loss due to anorexia

Anorexia is an eating disorder that can lead to severe weight loss. A person experiencing anorexia due to lung cancer is usually unintentional because of the pain and discomfort caused by the disease. In anorexia due to lung cancer, a person losses its appetite that causes him or her to eat less than the usual amount needed or normal body requirement. Because of not wanting to eat, the person results to extreme weight loss and an imbalanced nutrition.

Chronic cough

This is a kind of cough that lasts for more than two weeks. Worse, this is the kind of cough that doesn’t easily go away and is not usually resolved with cough medications. Because chronic cough is annoying, it is considered as one of the reasons why people immediately consult their doctor. Still, the most common cause of chronic cough is smoking or inhalation of secondhand smoke.

Bloody sputum

Sputum, otherwise known as spit, can become bloody due to injuries inflicted on the lip, mouth, trachea, and even the tubes of the respiratory system. The determination of bleeding location is important in order to identify the appropriate intervention needed upon it. Some of the blood may also come from coughing, vomiting, bleeding of the gastrointestinal tract, bleeding of the gums, and other symptoms.

Chest pain

Out of the recurrent coughing symptoms which is most likely chronic, chest pain is expected to be present from the occurrence of the coughing episodes. Chest pain can be localized or can become migrating depending on how severe the lung cancer has become. Pain can be manifested as a squeezing, crushing and severe pain present on a person’s chest which lasts for about a few minutes or when the person coughs severely.

Most of these warning signs are treacherous enough that it can kill. That is why, the moment one experiences more than one of these lung cancer warning signs, it is advisable that you consult your physician immediately.

Breast Cancer Symptoms And Warning Signs

Article by Sandra

Having breast cancer is no longer the death sentence that it used to be. The medical profession has made some amazing strides in breast cancer detection and treatment options. However, the key to having the best chance of survival is early detection. That is why every woman owes it to herself and needs to educate herself on the five most common warning signs of breast cancer.

The most common sign of breast cancer is noticing a lump in the breast or a thickening of the breast. Breast lumps can often be just fatty tissue and not cancerous, but that is the first sign that normally sends people to go see their doctor to have a thorough examination. The five warning signs of breast cancer are:

* Any change to the shape, size or contour of your breast* Flattening of the breast or indentations in your skin surrounding your breast* Clear or bloody discharge from the breast nipple, with or without the presence of a lump* Indentation or retraction of your nipple* Pitting of the breast skin or redness in the skin over the breast

While these symptoms may not always point to breast cancer, it is incumbent upon every woman to seek medical advice whenever any of the above conditions are noticed. In some cases, your doctor may ask you to have a sonogram of the breast to ascertain if there are any cysts or unusual areas on the mammogram that need further inspection.Mammograms are by far the most effective method for early detection and treatment of breast cancer.

It’s recommended that you have an annual mammogram if you’re over the age of 40, or if you have a history of breast cancer in your family. You should also consult with a health care professional to help determine how frequently you should have a mammogram as well.

The first stage can be named as stage 0 – in this stage no signs of development of cancer cells can be seen. In this stage no movement or invading of the healthy cells by cancer cells can be seen. The second stage is named as stage

1 – in this stage movement or invading of the healthy cells by cancer cells can be seen. At this stage the size of the tumor is not more than 2 centimeters and no affect on lymph nodes can be seen at this stage. The next stage is stage

2 – this stage shows up the invasive breast cancer. The size of the tumor at this stage is more than 2 centimeters. At this stage cancer starts affecting the lymph nodes of the arm pit of same side. This stage is not an advanced stage as the lymph nodes are still away from one another and also the surrounding tissues.

One prevention method is known as chemoprevention. Essentially, this is the use of drugs. For breast cancer in particular selective estrogen receptor modulator is used. What this drug does is block estrogen absorption in the receptors, which causes any cancer cells to stop growing.

One drug that is approved by the FDA (Food and Drug Administration) and has been proven to decrease lumps and cysts and can be used in both early and later stages of breast cancer. Side effects can include weight gain and increased uterine cancer risk.

Your care giver or doctor use to keep gap between courses of treatment that can help to recover your body. Treatment can be given in clinic, at hospital or at home as well but in some type of chemotherapy you need to stay in hospital overnight.

What You Need to Know about Breast Cancer Signs for Early Breast Cancer Detection

FREE Samples and Coupons for Brand Name Products!

Article by Heather Solomon

As can be said of all cancers, there is no one definite cause of breast cancer, or if there is, then it is still undefined. Rather, there are risk factors that can increase the likelihood of developing breast cancer. These risk factors include age, obesity, high alcohol intake, genetic predisposition, and prolonged use of oral contraceptives. It should be kept in mind that the presence of these factors does not necessarily and inevitably predict breast cancer. Their occurrence makes it more likely that breast cancer will develop. Therefore, if you possess any of these characteristics, you should be doubly alert for breast cancer signs for early breast cancer detection.

It is recommended for all women to regularly perform Self Breast Examination (SBE) every month when they reach the age of 20. Anyone can properly execute this in the privacy of his/her own home. This can be done either when lying on a bed or standing in the shower. First, you will inspect the breast area for any changes in appearance. Look for any change in size, symmetry, texture and color. This is because any change in appearance of the breasts will point towards a modification in their health. Bruising or presence of any secretion of the nipples is not normal. The next step is to feel for any bumps in the breasts. You can do this by raising one arm, and using the index and middle finger of the other hand to examine the breast. The examining hand can be moved in a circular or vertical motion, as long as the whole area of the breast is covered. Any abnormal observation should be immediately reported to a physician for verification. Annual Clinical Breast Examination is also an option for high-risk women. However, this method of looking for breast cancer signs for early breast cancer detection can only detect a tumor less than 1 centimeter in size when it has been growing for 8 to 10 years.

Once a woman reaches the age of 40, it is advised that she has mammography performed every year. Mammography is considered the gold standard, which means that it is still the best tool available in determining the occurrence of breast cancer. This method makes use of x-rays to produce an image of the breasts. However, it has been found out that mammography has a high false positive rate. Only one out of every six positive mammography scans turn out positive during a biopsy.

Another tool that has been used to supplement mammography is the Digital Infrared Thermal Imaging (DITI). This makes a map of the heat released by the body, which can be compared to the normal maps. Any divergence from the normal is indicative of a change in the functioning of the region involved, and can point to a disease. Studies have shown that DITI has 99% sensitivity, which means that it can positively identify breast cancer in 99 out of 100 cases.

Nowadays, there are many tools and methods available to identify breast cancer signs for early breast cancer detection. More information about these can be found in http://freearticlesearch.net. With enough knowledge and diligence, any cancer can be attended to immediately and its growth and spread can be prevented.

Could You Have Breast Cancer? – The Signs And Symptoms For Stages 1 To 4

FREE Samples and Coupons for Brand Name Products!

Breast cancer is easily one of the main well-known forms of cancer and sadly it is usually one of the most challenging cancers to identify during the early stages. The lack of certain signs or symptoms signifies that many of the new conditions recognized on a regular basis are already in a well developed stage, and sadly some are usually passed the stage of therapy.

So what are the signs and symptoms of breast cancer that everyone should look for?

Stage 1 breast cancer

A case of breast cancer that is diagnosed as stage 1 will still be confined to the breast tissue. This means that the signs of illness will generally be related to the breasts, or more commonly a single breast.

Signs to look for include:

A lump or swelling within the breast. The lump can be situated just below the skin or deep down in the breast tissue, but either way it is often painless.

An ‘orange peel’ appearance of the skin around the area of the lump. The skin will often look dimpled but in a lot of cases the dimpling is missed because it is so slight.

A sudden inversion of the nipple. This is where the nipple becomes drawn into the breast and is very easy to spot. This symptom is however quite rare.

Nipple discharge that is blood stained. Any nipple discharge should be reported to a physician and never more so than if it is blood stained.

Stage 2 breast cancer

The signs and symptoms of stage 2 breast cancer are very similar to those described above, although they may be more pronounced and easy to recognize. Again, the cancer is still confined to the breast tissue in stage 2 and so additional symptoms are rare.

Stage 3 and 4 breast cancer

By the time breast cancer reaches stage 3 and 4 it has invariably spread to other areas of the bodyand this is when additional signs and symptoms become apparent. Although breast cancer can spread to anywhere in the body the common sites include the lungs, the liver, the lymph nodes and the bones.

Obviously the symptoms that are experienced depend on the secondary sites that become affected however common symptoms include the following:

Shortness of breath, wheezing on mild exertion and a chronic cough when the cancer spreads to the lungs. A feeling of being continually bloated, pain in the abdomen, jaundice, and ongoing fatigue when the liver becomes a secondary site for the cancer. Persistent infections, a general feeling of being unwell, sores, cuts and abrasions that won’t heal and swellings in the neck and groin when the lymph nodes are affected. Pain within the long bones and unexplained bone fractures when the bones become cancerous.

These signs and symptoms aren’t specific to breast cancer however they do indicate that some form of cancer is present within the body. The initial breast cancer lump will be very obvious by this stage and so will help with a diagnosis.

Any of the symptoms mentioned above should be reported to your doctor and especially if there are abnormalities within the breast tissue itself. Hopefully any symptoms you do have will turn out to be something far less serious but as the saying goes ‘it’s better to be safe than sorry’.
